• STEINER STUDIOS TO SIGN LEASE ON BUILDING AT BROOKLYN NAVY YARD, DOUBLING SPACE FOR FEATURE FILM, TELEVISION, AND COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION

    Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY – February 15 – Douglas C. Steiner, chairman, Steiner Studios, and Andrew H. Kimball, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, announced today that they expect to ink a development deal and long-term lease to expand Steiner Studios with the renovation of a 289,000-square-foot seven-story tower. The World War II-era building at 25 Washington Avenue stands at the entrance of the 15-acre Steiner Studios media campus at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. In addition to more production space for film, television, commercials and photo shoots, the building will be a resource for post-production, animation, and other media-related companies. This expansion of the media campus is expected to bring an additional 550 jobs to the Navy Yard.

  • MAYOR BLOOMBERG BREAKS GROUND FOR 400,000-SQUARE-FOOT EXPANSION AT BROOKLYN NAVY YARD

    Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) President and CEO Andrew H. Kimball today broke ground on an 89,000-square foot industrial building on Perry Avenue in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The project, to be developed for multi-tenant occupancy, is part of a seven-building expansion initiative over the next three years that is expected to generate up to 800 new jobs at one of the City’s largest and most successful industrial centers. The expansion program – the largest such initiative at the historic site since World War II – will create 401,900 square feet of additional industrial capacity at the 300-acre Navy Yard, which presently encompasses four million square feet of industrial space.

    Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Governor George E. Pataki along with Steiner Studios Chairman Douglas C. Steiner today announced an operating agreement with Mel Brooks’ production company Brooksworks, LLC, to bring the production of Brooks’ latest film,The Producers: The Movie Musical to Steiner Studios this fall. Produced by Mel Brooks and directed by Susan Stroman, The Producers will star Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. The film, which begins shooting at Steiner Studios in late Fall 2004, is one of the first in New York to take advantage of the new incentive program designed to attract more film and television production to New York State.

  • NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF SMALL BUSINESS SERVICES TO LAUNCH HIRING INITIATIVE AT STEINER STUDIOS IN BROOKLYN NAVY YARD

    The Workforce Development Corporation (WDC), a not-for-profit corporation affiliated with the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) and chaired by SBS Commissioner Robert W. Walsh, today released a request for proposals to hire a workforce consultant to coordinate a hiring initiative with Steiner Studios and other film industry-related employers at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which will bring hundreds of jobs to the area. In July, the Department of Small Business Services (SBS) will establish a recruitment outpost at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and will collaborate with its Workforce1 Career Centers, The Training and Employment Council in Brooklyn (TEC/Brooklyn), and numerous community based organizations, to establish a single point-of-contact between local jobseekers, production companies and vendors involved in Steiner Studio productions.
